Tyrique Jameal Tookes

18 years old · died May 8, 2019 · Fulton County Jail, Fulton County, Georgia

Tyrique Tookes was 18 when he died in his cell at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia in May 2019. His family says he complained of chest pain for about two weeks before his death and was given antacid and warm compresses. A lawsuit the family filed against NaphCare Inc. and 11 medical staff says his care was inadequate and lists the cause of death as cardiac tamponade from a ruptured ascending aorta. The Fulton sheriff's office asked the GBI to investigate, and its spokeswoman said he had complained of chest pain during the two weeks before he died, though autopsy results were not yet known when that was reported. The jail and NaphCare had not commented at the time of reporting.
