Shawndre Delmore
Shawndre Delmore, 24, was loving and compassionate, according to his mother, Natasha Holoman, and his grandmother, and his mother said he would never harm anyone. He was found unresponsive in his cell at the Fulton County Jail on August 31, 2023, and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died on September 3. Fulton County officials told the family he died of cardiac arrest, but the family and their attorneys dispute that account and say he had no known prior medical conditions. As of the latest reporting, the medical examiner's autopsy was still pending. The family's attorneys are demanding medical records, access to witnesses and surveillance video, and say a compassionate release bond granted after his ICU admission suggests the jail sought to distance itself from the death.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined (disputed; neglect alleged). The Fulton County Jail's account attributes the death to cardiac arrest, while his family and attorneys dispute that account, say he had no known prior medical conditions, and allege the jail sought to distance itself from the death after a compassionate release bond was granted following his ICU admission; the autopsy was still pending and an independent autopsy had not been conducted.
Reported by: Fulton County officials (the agency that held him); Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office (medical examiner or coroner); Shawndre Delmore's family and attorneys, including Mawuli Mel Davis (family or their lawyers).
