Justin “Gusto” Gidora
Friends remember Justin "Gusto" Gidora, 35, as a beloved Woodlawn Heights native, "The Mayor of Woodlawn," and one of the nicest and most positive people in the Bronx, and they held a candlelight vigil for him in Van Cortlandt Park. He was held at Bronx Central Booking, and paramedics were called there on July 6, 2023, after he suffered a major injury; he died at Lincoln Hospital on July 13. The NYPD said the death is being investigated as a medical episode, and the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of death. Friends allege a fight or beating inside the facility and dispute the police account of how he was seized.
