Elijah Muhammad
Elijah Muhammad, 31, died on July 10, 2022, while held in the custody of the New York City Department of Correction in the Bronx. The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation, which reviews deaths in which an officer may have played a part, was notified and lists the cause as an overdose. A New York Daily News report said he died over the weekend before publication in a suspected overdose. Correction Commissioner Louis Molina fired one correction officer after the death and referred the case to the Department of Investigation.
