34 years old · died August 10, 2018 · Oswego County Jail, Oswego County, New York

Daniel U. Ellis, 34, died on August 10, 2018, while held at the Oswego County Correctional Facility in New York. A state Commission of Correction Medical Review Board report, which was not made public until a newspaper requested it under state freedom of information law, attributes his death to complications from a brain tumor and says his death might have been prevented with adequate medical care. The report found that staff did not refer him for physician evaluation and that he was left on his cell floor for many hours before he was found without a pulse. His mother said he told her by phone in the weeks before his death about his headaches and feeling out of it, and she visited him in July 2018.
