Dale Dakota
Dale Dakota died in 2011 while held in a Michigan jail. He had a history of heart problems, according to his family. In a lawsuit filed in July 2012, his family says he developed an intracranial hematoma, sepsis and inflammation of the lining of the heart, and that a doctor, reached by phone by jail staff, did not send him to a hospital as his condition worsened, delaying treatment until it was too late. The lawsuit names Dr. Cullinan as the physician whose decision is at issue.
Cause of death, as reported: Died from neglect by staff (disputed). His family's lawsuit says a doctor reached by phone by jail staff did not send him to a hospital as his condition worsened, and that the delay in treatment caused his death from a brain hemorrhage, blood infection and heart-lining inflammation.
Reported by: his family's lawsuit (family or their lawyers).
Lawsuit: His family sued Dr. Cullinan in July 2012, alleging that a phone-directed delay in hospital care caused his death in a Michigan jail in 2011, and no settlement or award amount is reported.
