Woodrow Taylor
Woodrow Taylor, 53, was held at Elkton Prison in Ohio, a federal facility. According to WKBN, he went to the prison's health services department with shortness of breath and trouble keeping his oxygen level up, and staff sent him to the hospital, where his condition worsened and he was placed on a ventilator. He died on April 2, 2020. The Federal Bureau of Prisons said he had long-term pre-existing conditions, and a fellow prisoner who shared his housing pod, Kendal Nelson, said he had a bad heart and a bad kidney. The Ohio Capital Journal counted his death among the Elkton deaths from COVID-19 or suspected COVID-19, and a COVID-19 test taken at the hospital had not returned when he died.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of illness (neglect alleged). The Bureau of Prisons said Woodrow Taylor had long-term pre-existing conditions, and a fellow prisoner said he had heart and kidney problems; the Columbiana County Health District and prison officials linked the Elkton deaths to COVID-19, and a fellow prisoner said his death left him afraid for his own health, while a COVID-19 test taken at the hospital had not returned.
Reported by: Federal Bureau of Prisons (the agency that held him); Columbiana County Health District; fellow prisoner.
