Wood

died July 7, 1891 · Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Oswego County, New York

Wood was executed by electrocution at Sing Sing prison in New York on July 7, 1891, as one of several men put to death that day. The Arizona Weekly Citizen reported that he showed no emotion on seeing the chair and kept his eyes on a crucifix. The Weekly Tribune reported that two priests, Fathers Creeden and Lynch, prepared him while Smiler was being executed, and that he walked to the chair without speaking. Both accounts place Wood's death about twenty-four minutes after Smiler's, though they differ on how many men were executed that day, one saying three and the other four.
