Williams Surles
Williams Surles, 64, of Dunn, died on December 19, 2024, while held at the Harnett County Detention Center in Lillington. His daughter, Lawanda Snead, had been expecting to bring him home that day, and she has said she wants answers about his death; she described his long-deteriorating health, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Surles was found dead in his cell bunk. Harnett County says the autopsy results will not be released for about six months, and the State Bureau of Investigation and the sheriff's office are investigating; the cause and manner of death have not been determined.
