Executed
William Weiners
William Weiners was hanged in St. Louis, Missouri, on the morning of February 1, 1878, after Governor Phelps declined to interfere further in his case, the state having carried out the sentence. He walked to the scaffold accompanied by priests, knelt in prayer, and made a short statement before the sentence was carried out. The Worcester Daily Press reported that his death was instantaneous.
