William T. McGaughy
William T. McGaughy, 31, died at the Buchanan County jail on February 4, 2023. According to a news release from Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett, jail personnel found him attempting to take his own life that Saturday evening, and he was alone in his cell. The sheriff's office said deputies, medical staff and emergency medical personnel tried to save him, but he died. An autopsy has been ordered while the investigation continues, and the cause of death has not been determined.
Cause of death, as reported: Died by suicide. Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett said in a news release that McGaughy was found attempting suicide in his cell and died despite efforts to save him.
