Died in custody
William S. Westfall
William S. Westfall, 21, of Eugene, was taken into custody by Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers near Eugene. While he was in transport, officers noticed he appeared to be in physical and mental distress, and he was taken to a hospital. He died there the following day. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the cause of his death was still under investigation.
Cause of death, as reported: Cause not yet determined. The Missouri State Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation indicated he may have taken an unknown amount of methamphetamine before his arrest, and the investigation was still ongoing.
