According to the Salt Lake Herald, William George, a Black man, had once been a prominent politician at Vicksburg and a pension agent. He was executed inside the enclosure of the Lake Providence jail in Louisiana on January 15, 1886, as the paper reported. The account of his death comes from a single 1886 newspaper report.
