Will Millen, a Black man described in one report as a union miner, was held in the jail at Brighton, Alabama, in early August 1908. A mob took him from the jail in the early morning and hanged him from a tree near town. A coroner's jury adjourned to hear more witnesses, and two special deputies were arrested on murder charges and deny any part in the death.
