Will Fretwell
Will Fretwell was one of two young men from Fiskville, where both were raised and later buried, and he was held in the Bell County jail in Belton, Texas. The Weekly Democratic Statesman reported that on Friday night, January 5, 1877, a group of people went to the jail, took him and another young man from custody, and hanged them. The Dallas Daily Herald, which placed the killing at Hilton, reported that about thirty men carried it out.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A mob took Bill Kretwell from the jail in Hilton and hanged him along with another man, according to the Dallas Daily Herald.
