Wensel
According to a brief item in the Custer Chronicle, published September 29, 1883, Wensel was taken from the jail at Cheyenne by a mob and lynched. The death is dated September 12, 1883 in the record, though the item does not describe when it happened. The paper does not say how the mob got into the jail or whether jail staff resisted or handed Wensel over. The only account is a short, badly garbled newspaper report, so other details cannot be confirmed.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Custer Chronicle reports that Wensel was taken from the Cheyenne jail and lynched by a mob, with no account of how jail staff responded.
