Wash
Wash was held in the Jones County jail in Mississippi when a mob broke in during October 1942, took them out, and drove them to a nearby bridge, where they were hanged. At a later trial, Sheriff J. Press Reddock testified that he pleaded with the crowd to stop, and that the jailer gave up the keys even though the sheriff had ordered him to refuse. An FBI special agent also testified, and a signed statement from a member of the mob was entered as evidence. Some of those charged were acquitted, and others were convicted.
