Ward

died April 1885 · Guard House, Obion County, Tennessee

Freeman Ward was held in the guard house at Union City, Tennessee, in April 1885. A Nashville dispatch printed in the Caldwell Tribune on April 24, 1885, reports that a crowd of armed citizens took him and another man, Farris, from the guard house and hanged Ward from the same tree used in an earlier March lynching. A year-end review in the True Northerner gives a different account, saying a crowd took a man named Ward from the sheriff at Union City and hanged him.
