Wanda Gaye Dison was 68 years old and was being cared for in the infirmary at Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, Alabama. When her health declined quickly, she was moved to a hospital on June 21, 2020, and tested positive for COVID-19 there. She died on June 29, 2020. The Alabama Department of Corrections said she had advanced chronic medical conditions and that an autopsy would determine the exact cause of her death.
