Wanda D. Kendrick
Wanda D. Kendrick, 59, died on March 2, 2018, after being held at the Johnson County Detention Center in Olathe, Kansas, where she had been placed that February. The sheriff's office said jail staff found her unresponsive in her cell during a welfare check that Friday morning and took her to a hospital, where she died several hours later, and said an investigation is underway. An autopsy report by the coroner lists enlargement of the heart as the cause of death, with complications of a past gastric bypass as a probable contributing condition. Her roommate said she never received her prescription medications during her eight days in jail, a claim the jail and its health contractor have not addressed in detail, and her son and roommate said they are not satisfied with the answers so far and are considering legal action.
