Walter Sullivan
Walter Sullivan, a Black man, was held in the jail in Portland, Ashley County, Arkansas, when a mob took him and killed him, according to a brief item in the Sharp County Record published in October 1902. The paper reported that he was hanged from a tree and his body riddled with bullets. The sheriff's and jailer's part in the events is not described in this account.
