Walter "Buddy" Springstead
Walter "Buddy" Springstead was 24 when he died in his cell at the Ward County Jail in North Dakota in the early morning of December 12, 2016. The Minot Daily News reported that the death appeared to be a self-inflicted hanging, and he was pronounced dead at Trinity Medical Center. The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which is investigating the death, said it found no indication of wrongdoing by jail staff. The jail had been under state scrutiny since a 2014 death of a person held there.
