Executed
W. I. Yeatts
W. I. Yeatts was held at the jail and was hanged on a scaffold in an enclosure behind the courthouse, with Sheriff Overby carrying out the sentence. His father, brother and brother-in-law visited him the night before, and he spent time reading the Bible, with an Episcopal minister praying with him that morning. An examination found that he died of strangulation, and a doctor pronounced him dead about sixteen minutes after the drop. His brother-in-law took his body to the family burial place.
