Vincent Riggie
Vincent Riggie, 37, was a son, a brother and the father of a 10-year-old boy, Roman. His mother, Sandra Cagle, says he was a good person, funny and loved by his family, who looked forward to him getting clean. He died on January 18, 2025, at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, where jail staff found him unresponsive during a sight check. The jail and the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office attribute his death to a fentanyl overdose from contraband, and prosecutors have charged two other men held there with murder. Cagle says the jail has had too many drug deaths and is calling for accountability and reform, and a later state inspection found the facility did not notify the State Department of Health until January 22, four days after the death, though policy requires notice by the next working day.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). Prosecutors and the Oklahoma County Detention Center say a fentanyl overdose from contraband smuggled in by other detainees killed him, and his mother, Sandra Cagle, calls for accountability over the jail's repeated drug deaths; the inspection report says the jail notified the state health department four days late, not by the next working day.
Reported by: Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office (the agency that held him); Oklahoma County Detention Center (the agency that held him); Mother Sandra Cagle (family or their lawyers); State Department of Health inspection report (outside investigators).
