Victor White III
Victor White III, a 22-year-old Black man, was the youngest of nine children and was known to his family as Lil Vic. Louisiana State Police said he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 3, 2014, while in the back of a police car with his hands cuffed behind him. His father disputes that account, saying Victor's injuries suggested he had been beaten and that he would not have spoken the words attributed to him. The family says they have not found closure. A sheriff's office captain said an investigation cleared the officer involved.
