Victor Mercedes, 50, died on the evening of Friday, August 17, 2018, while held at Elmira Correctional Facility, a state prison in Elmira, New York. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said the cause of his death would be determined by the Chemung County Medical Examiner's Office. The department said a separate incident involving another person earlier that day was under investigation.
