Vernon Williams, 63, died on March 6, 2021, at Merit Health Central hospital in Jackson while he was held at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County. According to the report, the cause of death is pending an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner, an office that operates independently of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The department has said the autopsy will determine the cause.
