Vernon Ramsey
Vernon Ramsey died on December 2, 2024, while held at the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, Texas. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office said he told jail staff he was not feeling well, was examined by jail medical staff, became unresponsive, and was taken by ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he died. His wife, Tamra Ramsey, told the state jail commission that he suffered from poor medical care, pain, poor nutrition, stress and sleep deprivation while held there, and that jail medical staff did not give him his medications on time. The medical examiner ruled his death natural, listing hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause and diabetes as a contributing factor, and Tamra Ramsey disputes the diabetes finding and says the death was preventable.
