Vauce McClure
Vauce McClure worked as keeper at a sales stable on Julia Street in New Iberia, Louisiana. He was being held in the town's jail on July 23, 1894, when a mob obtained duplicate keys while the officers were at dinner, opened his cage, took him out and hanged him from a gallery railing. According to the Times-Democrat account, jailer Pointes, Sheriff Cade and Deputy Romero had earlier tried to stop an attempt on the keys, and a false fire alarm drew them away from the jail, where they were overpowered. The paper says the officers arrived too late to save him.
