Vandy G. Smith
Vandy G. Smith died on March 2, 2021, while held at Harris County Jail in Texas, according to the Texas Office of the Attorney General's custodial death report. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the person who died was a man in his late sixties who had tested positive for COVID-19 and had been hospitalized since February 14 with the virus and other underlying medical conditions, dying that evening. The sheriff's office said it was withholding his name under HIPAA privacy rules. The Texas Rangers opened an independent investigation into the death.
