Vance Holloway
Vance Holloway died in December 2022 while held at the Richmond City Justice Center in Richmond, Virginia. His sister, Jeanika Meredith, has said people held at the jail have family who love them, and his partner, Dedrick White, described him as her soulmate. The sheriff's office first reported a medical emergency, and crews responded, but released little information during its investigation. The Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed a fentanyl-involving overdose, and the family has said they want answers and fear for the safety of others held there.
Cause of death, as reported: Died of an overdose (neglect alleged). The Medical Examiner's Office ruled it a fentanyl-involving overdose, and a state board found supervision violations in its review of the death.
Reported by: Medical Examiner's Office (medical examiner or coroner).
