Died in prison
Van Baker
Van Baker died of consumption while held at the West Virginia penitentiary in Moundsville. The Griggs Courier reported his death in its issue of December 8, 1893, and listed the cause as consumption, which the paper described as a natural death. Tuberculosis, known then as consumption, was the illness the paper named as the cause of his death in the prison.
