Three Black men held at the Wickliffe jail were taken from it and hanged, according to a brief item in the Wausau Pilot in September 1901, and this man was one of them. The newspaper report says a group of Black men seized the three from the jail and hanged them. He was held in the custody of the Wickliffe jail when he was taken and killed.
