A man held in a Tennessee jail near Mitchell was taken from the jail by a large armed group and killed in June 1878, according to the Kenosha Telegraph. He was the second of two men held there in connection with an alleged assault on a woman who lived near Mitchell. The newspaper does not give his name.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. A news report says a large body of armed men took him from the jail and lynched him.
