A Black man, whose name was not reported, was held by a deputy at Elizabeth station in Mississippi. Press reports received at Vicksburg said a masked group of men took him from the deputy and hanged him promptly afterward. The men had been linked to the shooting of Dr. William B. Ollphant at Holms station, a claim the reports made without establishing it. The reports say he was taken from the deputy's custody and do not describe how the deputy responded.
