A man being taken to jail under the custody of two officers in Texas was seized from them by a posse of citizens on April 24, 1906, according to The Herald and News. One account says the crowd held him until J. A. Eastland, a farmer of Delta, arrived; Eastland then ordered the crowd back and fired a shotgun loaded with buckshot into him, killing him instantly. A second account in the same paper names the shooter only as the father of a young woman and says the man was conveyed to jail by two officers before the posse took him. The man's name and age are not given in either account, and the two accounts differ on who fired the shot.
