A 53-year-old man tested positive for COVID-19 in early April 2021 while held at the Chaffee County Detention Center in Salida, Colorado, and the detention center said he was housed in an isolation pod. On April 13 he was taken to a hospital and released from the facility's custody that day on personal recognizance bonds. He was then taken to UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, where he died on April 17, 2021. The detention center said his death is believed to be related to complications from COVID-19.
