The man has not yet been identified by the coroner. Charleston County deputies stopped him near Ladson Road and Jamison Road, and on March 1, 2026, he became ill in the back of a patrol vehicle, which the Charleston County Sheriff's Office describes as a medical emergency. EMS took him to Summerville Medical Center, where he died shortly afterward. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been asked to investigate the death.
