He was the older of two young men, and the Wheeling Register gave his age as up to twenty-five. He was in the custody of the sheriff when a mob took him and hanged him on June 8, 1883, according to a Wheeling Register editorial published June 12, 1883. The editorial is the only source given for his death.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The Wheeling Register editorial says a mob hanged him after taking him from the sheriff's custody.
