Name not reported
A Black man's body was found near the execution site in Asheville the morning after he was believed to have been held in the county jail, according to the Bridgeton Pioneer of June 25, 1891. No name is given for him. The St. Louis Globe-Democrat conjectured that soldiers took him from the jail and lynched him. Nothing in the account describes what the jail's staff did or did not do on that night.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched. The St. Louis Globe-Democrat account only conjectures that soldiers took a prisoner from the county jail and lynched him, and the body found the next morning is not confirmed as his.
