The surviving newspaper text does not preserve this man's name, and he is referred to here only as the man whose name is garbled in the scan. According to The Herald's report of January 4, 1889, he was executed by hanging in late December 1888 at a location in Texas that is no longer legible in the text. The same report said he went to the gallows smoking a cigar.
