A man whose name is garbled in the 1888 newspaper text was hanged in Bastrop, Louisiana, in late December 1888, before a large crowd. The Press and Daily Dakotaian reported on December 31, 1888 that the drop fell at 8:12 and that life was extinct eighteen minutes later. He was held under a sentence when he was put to death.
