Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
A Black man held in the jail at Elizabeth, N.C., was taken from the jail by masked men, according to the Hand County Press of May 12, 1892, and hanged. It is unclear from the report whether the jailer resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed the man over. His name in the newspaper text is garbled and cannot be read reliably.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
