Died in jail or a lockup
Name not reported
A man held in an Indiana jail in March 1886 was taken from his cell by a mob and lynched. He was one of three brothers, though his first name is garbled in the surviving newspaper text. The jail is named only as a jail, and the paper does not say whether the jailer or sheriff resisted the mob, gave up the keys or handed him over.
Cause of death, as reported: Taken from custody and lynched
Reported by: historical newspaper account (OCR text) (reporters).
