A man of Cherokee descent, whose name is garbled in the surviving newspaper text, was hanged at Fort Smith, Arkansas, in August 1886. A roundup of the year's executions, published in the Wessington Springs Herald in January 1887, reports the hanging. The execution was carried out under the authority of the court that had sentenced him.
