A Black person held in the jail near Raleigh, North Carolina, was taken from it by a mob on the night of Tuesday, September 29, 1885, and killed. This person was the third of three people held in the same jail who were taken by the mob that night. The mob broke into the jail to reach them, and the person was killed after being taken out.
