Jackson County, Indiana

Three men were being carried by train to the county jail near Seymour, Indiana, and were in the jail's custody in 1871 when a body of citizens stopped the train. According to Rev. H. L. Wayland, quoted in the Independent, the crowd removed the men from the cars and hanged them from a beech tree about two miles west of Seymour. Wayland attributes the hangings to that body of citizens, who took the men from the custody of the county jail while they were on the train.
