Harlan jail, Harlan

A man whose name is not legible in the surviving newspaper text was taken from the jail at Harlan, Iowa, by a mob and hanged. The account, published in The Iola Register in August 1883, says only that the killing happened recently and gives no date, no names of those who took him, and no account of how the jail staff responded. Nothing else about who he was or the circumstances of his time in the jail can be established from this source.
