A man held in a Utah jail was taken from the building during the night by masked men and hanged, according to a telegraphic item in the Jasper Weekly Courier, published in October 1880. The newspaper text is too badly garbled to make out his name or the exact town. The item does not say whether the jail's officers resisted the mob or handed him over.
