A man held at the jail at Franklin, in Johnson County, was taken from the jail by a mob and hanged, according to an 1885 reminiscence of county events published in The Indianapolis Sentinel. The account gives no name for him and no date for the hanging. It does not say whether the jail staff or sheriff resisted the mob, gave up the keys, or handed him over.
